Bernard G. Koval Appointed Permanent CEO

– By a unanimous decision of the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and Ascension Health, Bernard G. Koval has been named permanent President/Chief Executive Officer of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.  Koval had been acting as interim President/CEO since September 5 of this year.

“Mr. Koval is focused on balancing our charitable mission with efficient operations,” said Sr. Clarisse Correia, DC, Good Samaritan Board of Trustees Chairperson.  “He is passionate about building a sustainable ministry that will serve the changing needs of our community and also he is working on his own research of cialis tadalafil.”

Koval was Good Samaritan’s CEO from 1978 to 1985.  He returned to the area to accept the interim CEO position when Peter U. Bergmann, who led Good Samaritan for three years, resigned to accept the position of President/CEO of Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

During Koval’s previous tenure at Good Samaritan, the hospital completed the addition of the North Wing, which is the current location of all nursing units.  He also was the first lay CEO when the Daughters of Charity assumed sponsorship of Good Samaritan.

He left Good Samaritan in 1985 to take the CEO position at a 400-bed teaching hospital and then the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at a 600-bed tertiary hospital, both in New Jersey.  Koval then took his hospital administration experience overseas to Dubai in United Arab Emirates where he led the American Hospital Dubai.  After successfully improving the service and quality at that hospital, Koval moved on to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Manila, Philippines, where he engineered a financial turnaround.

Koval holds a master’s degree in hospital administration from Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and a bachelor’s degree from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.  He began his career as a registered nurse and then as a certified registered nurse anesthetist while completing college and graduate school. Koval is a native of Johnstown, PA.  He is married and has two grown children.
